Taylor Graham was brilliant in the pitcher’s circle on Saturday, April 18 as she threw a no-hitter to lead the Greenbrier East Spartans past the Westside Renegades 8-0 in game one of a doubleheader.

East secured the victory thanks to five runs in the third inning. They got singles by Graham and Olivia Plybon and an error on a ball put in play by Lilly Carola. Graham’s hit scored Josi Ervin, Plybon’s scored Graham and Annabelle Honaker knocked in Plybon. After the frame, the Spartans led 6-0.

Graham earned the victory on the hill for East. The senior allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings while striking out seven and walking one.

J. Fleenor was on the rubber for Westside. The hurler lasted five innings, gave up ten hits and eight runs while striking out three.

East pounded out 10 hits on the day. Graham, Plybon, and Ervin all managed multiple base knocks. Graham went 3-for-3 with two RBI’s. The Spartans didn’t commit a single error in the contest. They also tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Plybon led the way with three.

Game two was an even bigger domination for the Spartans. They used all the momentum from the opener and carried it over to the nightcap for a 16-0 win.

Ervin got the call on the mound and did not allow a single run and only one hit on the night.

In the first inning, East got their offense started. They scored when Rylee Norman stole home during Lindsey Black’s at-bat. Then Black busted a 2-run homer that also scored Graham who had singled.

The Spartans then put up five runs in the third inning. Their big bats in the inning were led by singles by Katie Jones and Black, and a double by Norman.

A single by M. Hicks in the third inning was the only positive for the Renegades.

Ervin earned the victory on the rubber for East Spartans. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowed one hit and zero runs while striking out six. She did not walk anyone either.

C. Bleigh started the game for Westside. She had a tough day and went four innings, allowed 16 runs on 14 hits, and struck out five.

East Spartans tallied two home runs in the game. Black hit both, in the first and second frames.

East (4-0) totaled 14 hits in the game.

Graham, Norman, Black, and Ervin each had multiple hits for the East Spartans. Graham went 4-for-4 and led the team in hits. Aubrey Glover led the way with four stolen bases.

Norman drove in two runs and so did Ervin. Black had four RBI’s.

Hicks led Westside with one hit in two at-bats.

The Spartans were back in action on Tuesday at Pikeview. Recap coming soon.
